Chamdo, under the jurisdicton of the Xizang Autonomous Region, formerly known as “Kham” also know as Khampa and the Pearl of the East of the Xizang. Changdu City has jurisdiction over 1 municipal district and 10 counties, with the municipal government located in Karuo District.

Geographical Location

It located in the east of Xizang with 3500 m above sea level, it is rich and diverse, with a strong Tibetan culture. Has a unique Tibetan Buddhist culture and traditional festivals. Best Time to Visit Qamdo

Qamdo experiences a humid continental climate, with its unique geographical location at mid to low latitudes, resulting in varied weather patterns across different regions. While much of Qamdo remains cold and dry, the southeast region enjoys a relatively warmer and more humid climate.

Sitting at an elevation of 3,500 meters above sea level, Qamdo benefits from long hours of sunshine, receiving around 2,700 hours of sunlight annually and experiencing 80 to 120 frost-free days. The temperature can fluctuate significantly between day and night, with an average annual temperature of 7.6 °C. The rainy season, spanning from May to September, brings about 680 mm of rainfall each year. The area’s challenging topography, with deep valleys and towering mountains, leads to highly varied weather conditions, changing every few miles.

For those planning a trip to Qamdo, the most favorable times to visit are during the spring (April to May) and autumn (September to October), when the weather is more stable. In contrast, the harsh conditions from November to March, with snow and freezing temperatures, and the heavy rainfall from July to August leading to mudslides and landslides, can make some areas in the valleys difficult to access.

Travelers to Qamdo should come prepared with protective clothing and gear to shield themselves from the region’s unpredictable weather conditions.
